Important: The Private “Fontana Recycling Center” on Slover Avenue Is Different
A private company named Fontana Recycling Center operates at 14964 Slover Ave., Fontana, CA 92337. It is not the same service as the City Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
Not open to the general public
The company’s current website explicitly states that its Fontana facility is not open to the general public. It focuses on commercial recycling accounts and commercial pickup services.
The company says it purchases materials such as cardboard, paper and plastic for qualifying commercial operations and states that it does not handle CRV.
If you are a resident with paint, batteries, electronics or household chemicals, use the City HHW rules instead of driving to the Slover Avenue commercial operation.
Fontana Beverage Recycling and CRV: Know the Difference
The City publishes multiple community locations with beverage-recycling collection bins. These are useful for recycling containers, but a recycling collection bin is not automatically a California CRV redemption/buyback center.

Use the State of California’s current “Where to Recycle” locator to find a CRV redemption location before driving. Do not assume every recycling bin or business with “recycling” in its name pays CRV.
Free Curbside Used Motor Oil and Filter Collection
Fontana residents do not always have to transport used motor oil to Orange Way. The City operates a free curbside used-oil and filter collection program.
Current curbside limit
The City allows collection of up to 15 gallons of used motor oil per pickup, along with used oil filters.
- Request collection. Use Fontana 311, the City’s online form or the Fontana 311 app.
- Use appropriate containers. Follow the City’s container instructions and do not overfill City-issued containers.
- Keep the oil pure. Do not mix motor oil with gasoline, antifreeze, brake fluid, solvents, parts cleaner, paint, dirt or debris.
- Place it near the garage. On collection day, leave the containers visible near the garage rather than at the curb.

Home-generated sharps include needles, syringes, lancets and similar sharp devices used for home medical care.
Do not throw sharps in household trash
The City requires sharps brought to its facility to be in an appropriate red medical sharps container. Other containers may expose family members, collection workers or facility staff to needle-stick injuries.
Fontana residents can obtain free sharps containers under the City’s program. Fill only to the marked fill line, lock the lid and return the sealed container to the HHW facility during the normal Saturday window.

Observed curbside holidays
Fontana currently lists New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day as observed service holidays. When an applicable holiday falls during the weekday service schedule, collection is delayed by one day following the holiday.
Small-Business Hazardous Waste: Separate Appointment Program
The Saturday residential HHW program does not accept business waste. However, Fontana has a separate fee-based program for eligible small businesses that qualify under hazardous-waste generator limits.
Appointment required
Eligible businesses must call 800-714-1195 in advance. The City’s current small-business material says appointments are scheduled for Fridays only at 16454 Orange Way.
Key eligibility conditions
- The business must be located in the City of Fontana.
- The business must meet applicable small-quantity-generator requirements.
- Current City material describes eligibility as producing less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month.
- The business must have less than 2,200 pounds of hazardous waste stored onsite.

Transport limit
The current City brochure states a limit of 27 gallons or 220 pounds per trip and per month for this program, with stricter limits for extremely or acutely hazardous waste.
Fees
This is not the free residential HHW program. Disposal charges vary by material, and the City’s published small-business price sheet says rates can change. Payment is arranged through the appointment program.
General Trash and Landfill Route
The Fontana HHW site is not a public dump for normal household garbage, construction debris or large general trash loads.
The City’s trash-service page lists Mid Valley Landfill, 2390 Alder Avenue, Rialto, CA 92377 as the County landfill reference. Call or check the responsible landfill authority before transporting a load because landfill hours, rates and material restrictions are separate from Fontana HHW rules.
