Who Can Use Marion County Recycling Centers?
Residents living in unincorporated Marion County who pay the annual Solid Waste assessment can use county recycling centers for most accepted household materials without an additional gate charge.
Businesses do not pay that residential Solid Waste assessment and are not permitted to use the county recycling centers for business garbage or recyclables. They are directed to Baseline Landfill or another appropriate commercial disposal provider.
City residents are not automatically covered by the county assessment
If you live inside an incorporated municipality such as the City of Dunnellon, confirm whether your property pays the Marion County Solid Waste assessment. Non-assessed residents need the appropriate permit if they want routine access to county recycling centers.
2026 Non-Assessed Recycling Center Permit Fees
Marion County currently offers annual access permits for residents who do not pay the county Solid Waste assessment through their property.
| Resident type | Annual permit fee | Current rule |
|---|---|---|
| Inside Marion County but within an incorporated municipality | $215.00 | Matches the annual non-ad valorem Solid Waste assessment. |
| Outside Marion County | $268.75 | County lists this at 25% above the annual assessment. |
Permits begin October 1 each year and are prorated when purchased later in the permit year. The County directs applicants to purchase permits in person at 5601 SE 66th Street, Ocala.

Important Glass Rule: Do Not Put Glass in Dunnellon Recycling
Marion County says glass is no longer accepted at its recycling centers. Glass bottles and jars should be bagged with household garbage rather than placed in the single-stream recycling container.
Older Marion County brochures may show glass as recyclable
Do not rely on an older recycling flyer that still includes glass. The current Marion County accepted-materials page explicitly excludes glass from the recycling-center stream.
Electronics, TVs and Computers at Dunnellon
Dunnellon is one of Marion County’s designated electronics recycling centers. Household electronics go into the large green containers marked for electronics rather than household garbage or single-stream recycling.
Computers & Accessories
Computers, monitors, keyboards, mice, cables, printers and scanners.
Household Electronics
Televisions, microwaves, DVD/VCR players, radios, fax machines and copiers.
Small Devices
Cell phones, tablets, e-book readers, handheld electronics, MP3 players and pagers.
Commercial electronics can be rejected
The County excludes electronics from businesses, commercial use, work vehicles and truck or trailer loads. Eligibility also depends on payment of the Solid Waste assessment or a valid access arrangement.
Before recycling a phone, tablet or computer, remove memory cards when practical, sign out of accounts and securely erase personal information.
For general device preparation, see our electronic recycling center guide.
Tire Disposal at Dunnellon Recycling Center
Marion County lists Dunnellon as a location that accepts up to five passenger-sized tires per day.
Five tires does not mean every tire type
The local recycling-center allowance is for passenger-sized tires. Commercial tire loads, truck tires, off-road tires and oversized tires follow different disposal and fee rules, generally through Baseline or an appropriate commercial route.
Furniture, Appliances and Scrap Metal
Dunnellon is one of the Marion County recycling centers that accepts qualifying household furniture during operating hours.
Accepted Furniture Examples
Beds, box springs, couches, chairs, sofas, dressers, mattresses, mirrors, tables and similar residential household furniture are listed by the County.
Furniture Exclusions
Construction and demolition material, toilets, furniture generated by a business, furniture from commercial use and furniture transported in commercial or work vehicles are excluded from the residential furniture program.
Household Scrap Metal
Examples include aluminum trays, aluminum siding and poles, barbecues, dishwashers, expired license plates, lawn equipment, ovens, ranges, pipe, refrigerators, washers, dryers and other large household appliances.
Some metal products are specifically excluded
Chain-link fence, cable, propane tanks, sealed drums or containers and wire are not accepted under the County’s regular scrap-metal category.
Paint, Motor Oil, Batteries and Fluorescent Bulbs
Local recycling centers accept a limited group of household hazardous materials. More complex chemicals should use the Baseline Household Hazardous Waste program instead.
Motor Oil
Automotive fluids such as motor oil are accepted up to 5 gallons.
Paint
Paint is accepted up to 5 gallons.
CFLs & Fluorescent Lamps
Compact fluorescent lamps, bulbs and tubes are listed in the local recycling-center HHW category.
Special Battery Types
Automotive and several rechargeable battery chemistries are accepted under County rules.
Battery Types Marion County Lists as Accepted
Lithium-ion, small sealed lead acid, nickel-cadmium, wet-cell lead acid, nickel-metal hydride, portable power-tool batteries, battery packs, automotive batteries and old-style cell-phone batteries are among the listed accepted types.
The County currently says alkaline, lithium and button batteries do not require special processing through the recycling centers and should use household garbage under its local guidance.
Safe Chemical Transport
- Keep hazardous products in original containers when possible.
- Label unmarked containers with their contents.
- Never mix liquids together.
- Use sturdy boxes or flat-bottomed totes.
- Prevent spills and cross-contamination.
- Keep chemicals away from children and pets.
For general preparation guidance, see our household hazardous waste recycling guide and battery recycling guide.
Dunnellon Yard Waste Limits
Marion County recycling centers accept residential yard waste such as leaves, hedge clippings and small branches.
| Rule | Current Marion County limit |
|---|---|
| Daily yard-waste volume | Up to 2 cubic yards per day |
| Maximum branch diameter | Less than 4 inches |
| Maximum branch length | Less than 4 feet |
Large commercial landscape loads or material exceeding the residential center allowance should use the appropriate larger-load disposal route.
See our yardwaste recycling center guide for broader loading and contamination tips.
When to Use Baseline Instead of Dunnellon
Baseline Landfill and Transfer Station at 5601 SE 66th Street, Ocala is the better route when your material exceeds recycling-center limits, requires fee-based disposal or belongs in the County’s broader Household Hazardous Waste program.
Over Daily Limits
Household garbage, yard waste or other material above local center allowances can require Baseline and applicable fees.
Complex Hazardous Waste
Gasoline, pesticides, pool chemicals, paint thinner, varnish and other advanced HHW categories are listed for Baseline.
Commercial Waste
Businesses and commercial users are directed away from the residential recycling-center system.
Baseline’s Household Hazardous Waste program has broader material acceptance, but larger quantities have separate limits. The County lists HHW over 15 gallons or 100 pounds per household per month as outside its standard household HHW allowance.
City of Dunnellon Curbside Trash and Bulk Service
If you live inside the City of Dunnellon, normal household trash does not necessarily require a trip to the county recycling center. The City contracts curbside service using 95-gallon trash carts.
Current City Collection Pattern
- Carted trash: Monday and Thursday.
- Items outside the cart: collected Monday only.
- Set-out deadline: no later than 6:30 AM.
- Bulk waste: schedule through City Hall at 352-465-8500.
- Scheduled bulk collection: Monday.
Current City Service Rates
| Service | Current published rate |
|---|---|
| Residential monthly regular pickup | $20.18 |
| Bulk yard waste | $21.05 per cubic yard |
| Oversized household item | $21.05 per item |
Do not place fire-risk materials in the City trash cart
The City specifically warns residents not to put lithium-ion batteries, oil, pool chemicals, propane tanks or hot coals into the trash cart because they can cause fires or safety hazards.
How to Prepare for a Dunnellon Recycling Center Trip
Check the day first

Confirm access eligibility
Know whether your property pays the Marion County Solid Waste assessment or whether you need a non-assessed recycling permit.

Separate electronics
Use the designated electronics container rather than mixed recycling or garbage.
Respect passenger-tire limits
Dunnellon accepts up to five passenger-sized tires per day.
Secure garbage and loose material
County rules require loads to be secured to prevent littering and spillage.
Keep household chemicals separate
Never mix liquids. Keep paint, motor oil, batteries and lamps separate and stable during transport.
Check yard-waste dimensions
Stay within the two-cubic-yard daily limit and branch length and diameter requirements.
Use Baseline for oversized or complex loads
Do not force a commercial, construction, large or complex hazardous load through a neighborhood recycling center.
