Motor Oil, Gasoline, Batteries and Automotive Fluids
The regular Recycling Center accepts several household automotive products, but the City publishes clear quantity and container restrictions.
Motor oil
The City lists up to 5 gallons of household motor oil. Commercial oil is not accepted.
Gasoline
The City lists up to 5 gallons and requires an approved gasoline container — not a milk jug or other unsuitable plastic container.
Other automotive items
Antifreeze, brake fluid, transmission fluid, power-steering fluid and car batteries are included on the accepted list.
Cardboard, Paper and Glass: Small Rules That Prevent Rejection
Cardboard
Shipping and moving boxes, cereal/pasta boxes, paper tubes and similar clean boxboard are accepted. Pizza boxes and wax-coated cartons are excluded.
Paper
Office paper, mail, newspaper, magazines, catalogs, paper bags and telephone books are accepted. Keep food-contaminated and laminated paper out.
Glass
Accepted bottles and jars can be clear, green, blue or brown. Broken glass, windows, bulbs, ceramics, Pyrex and dining ware do not belong in this stream.

Plastic #1–#7 and Styrofoam: What Round Rock Actually Takes
The Deepwood center accepts listed plastic containers numbered #1 through #7, including beverage bottles, dairy tubs, cooking-oil bottles, detergent bottles, milk jugs and plastic lids.
Rinse containers and follow the City’s lid instructions. Plastic bags and plastic wrapping are not accepted through this drop-off stream.
The Styrofoam “flake” rule
The City’s current guidance says: if the Expanded Polystyrene packaging can flake, the center can take qualifying forms of it. Common accepted examples include molded foam from furniture or TV boxes and single-use coolers.
Rechargeable Batteries, Fluorescent Bulbs and Propane Tanks
Several materials that do not belong in a normal curbside recycling cart can be brought to Deepwood under the City’s listed special-item categories.
Rechargeable batteries
The regular center lists rechargeable batteries as accepted. Non-rechargeable alkaline batteries are not accepted under this category.
Fluorescent bulbs
Fluorescent bulbs appear on the accepted list. Handle intact bulbs carefully to avoid breakage during transport.
Propane and helium tanks
The center lists propane and helium tanks. If a tank is damaged, leaking or otherwise unsafe, contact the City before transporting it.
Household Hazardous Waste: Hours, Cost, Proof and Limits
Round Rock expanded its HHW service in 2025. Eligible material can now be dropped at Deepwood Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4:00 PM rather than waiting for a monthly event.

Round Rock Bulk Pickup Changed: No More Citywide Annual Spring Cleanup
As of January 2025, Round Rock replaced the old citywide annual Spring Cleanup model with a schedulable annual bulk pickup for eligible in-city customers.

Important Items That Need Another Route
The City provides alternatives for several materials that the regular Deepwood recycling stream does not accept.
TVs and computers
TVs are not accepted in the regular center’s electronics stream. The City points residents toward electronics recycling and Texas computer-recycling resources.
Tires
Tires are not accepted. The City recommends checking local tire dealerships or another approved tire recycling route.
Freon appliances
Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners need a separate appliance-recycling option.
Furniture
The regular center is not the general furniture dump. Reuse, donation, annual bulk pickup or other disposal routes may fit better.
Mattresses
Use the City’s bulk pickup or another approved disposal/recycling route rather than assuming regular Deepwood recycling will take them.
Dirt and construction debris
These need a landfill or construction-material route rather than ordinary Deepwood recycling.
Printer cartridges
Printer cartridges are specifically excluded from the regular accepted list.
Alkaline batteries
Non-rechargeable alkaline batteries are not accepted through the listed rechargeable-battery category.
Pallets

Round Rock Residents vs. MUD Residents: Do Not Assume Eligibility
A Round Rock mailing address does not automatically mean a property qualifies for every City resident-only service. Brush Recycling, HHW vouchers and other programs can depend on whether the address is inside full-purpose City limits or served by a Municipal Utility District.
